The release date needs a footnote. Bigwinboard, AboutSlots, SlotCatalog and Casinos.com all give 21 November 2024, and a new-game article on Roshtein’s site is dated that day, but real-money footage was online earlier: Bigwinboard’s own YouTube channel posted a max win on 7 November, and other channels uploaded real-money videos in the following week. None of the sources we read explains the gap. Hacksaw’s game page gives no date at all.
How a spin pays
Wins pay along 19 fixed lines, three or more of a kind from the leftmost reel, and only the highest win per line counts. Hacksaw’s rules and every review we read say 19, with one exception: VegasSlotsOnline’s text says 14, the figure Bigwinboard gives for 2 Wild 2 Die. Most reviews list four card royals, five western premiums led by the sheriff badge, and a wild that pays only for five.
| Symbol | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sheriff badge | 2x | 5x | 10x |
| Stetson, six-shooters | 1x | 3x | 6x |
| Wagon wheel, cattle skull | 0.5x | 1.5x | 3x |
| A, K, Q, J | 0.1x | 0.5x | 1x |
| Wild | – | – | 10x |
Borgata’s review describes six royals, A down to 9, rather than four. On our reading, the layout of the paytable template in Hacksaw’s rules, nine rows paying for three to five plus one row paying only for five, fits the four-royal version. Bigwinboard, AboutSlots and SlotCatalog put the hit frequency at 29%; in the table above, three royals pay a tenth of the bet.
DuelReels and the Outlaw
Two special symbols drive the features. Everything in this list comes from Hacksaw’s in-game rules:
- VS symbols open DuelReels, but only when that pays. A VS symbol expands into a fully wild reel if the expanded reel would be part of a win. Only one can land on a reel at a time.
- The survivor sets the multiplier. Once a DuelReel opens, the Outlaw and the Sheriff each carry a multiplier, and whoever survives the duel applies his to every win through the reel. The possible values are 2x to 10x, then 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 75x, 100x and 200x.
- Multipliers add, they don’t multiply. Two DuelReels showing 10x and 25x in the same line give 35x, not 250x.
- The Outlaw shoots wilds. The rules attach no win condition here: an Outlaw symbol expands into a wild reel and shows a revolver with one to six bullets; each bullet puts a wild somewhere on the grid. The Outlaw reel carries its own multiplier from the same 2x–200x list, and two Outlaw reels in one win add theirs together.
- Never both at once. VS and Outlaw symbols cannot land on the same spin. Up to two Outlaws can, and they never shoot the same square or each other.

On our reading of the rules, the shot wilds are ordinary wilds and the multiplier sits on the Outlaw reel. The 21 November article on Roshtein’s site describes each shot wild as carrying its own 2x–200x multiplier; the rules put the multiplier on the Outlaw reel only.
Wild Wild West and Dusk ’Til Dawn
| Bonus | Trigger | Spins | What changes | Extra spins |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wild Wild West | 3 FS | 10 | Base-game rules, with VS and Outlaw symbols more likely and higher multipliers more likely on both | 2 FS: +2. 3 FS: +4 |
| Dusk ’Til Dawn | 4 FS | 10 | No VS symbols except in DuelSpins, which are unlocked by shooting wilds with the Outlaw | +3 per DuelSpin unlocked |
Dusk ’Til Dawn is the more unusual of the two. The rules say each DuelSpin is unlocked by shooting a full revolver of six wilds; a DuelSpin is an extra spin with guaranteed VS symbols: at least two on the first, three on the second, four on the third, and all five on the fourth. Bigwinboard, AboutSlots, SlotCatalog and VegasSlotsOnline describe four six-bullet meters above the grid, with progress saved between spins (the rules don’t spell this out); on that description, a two-bullet Outlaw and a four-bullet one fill a chamber between them. DuelSpins don’t use up the free-spin count, and each also adds three free spins. The rules cap it at two DuelSpins unlocked on any one spin.
By our arithmetic, reaching the fourth DuelSpin takes 24 shot wilds inside one bonus. SlotCatalog’s reviewer found that “getting more than one DuelSpin can be a challenge many times, which can be frustrating.” We found no rule, in Hacksaw’s text or any review, for five scatters or for four scatters landing inside Wild Wild West.
RTP and volatility
| RTP | Casino keeps | Long-run average loss per $1,000 staked |
|---|---|---|
| 96.30% (top version) | 3.70% | $37.00 |
| 94.27% | 5.73% | $57.30 |
| 92.28% | 7.72% | $77.20 |
| 88.37% | 11.63% | $116.30 |
Hacksaw doesn’t print an RTP on its Duel at Dawn page, and the rules template shows only a placeholder that the live game fills in; Hacksaw says its figure comes from simulating 10 billion rounds. SlotCatalog labels the four values “information from game provider”; its casino scan found 94.27% most often (10 casinos), ahead of 96.3% (5), an 88.2% listing (4) and 92.28% (2). Borgata’s New Jersey and Pennsylvania blog lists 96.03%, matching none of them, with a note that RTP may differ by jurisdiction. Whether that is a typo for 96.30% or a separate US build, no source says.
On volatility, Hacksaw’s own slots list lights 4 of 5 icons, one fewer than Wanted Dead or a Wild and 2 Wild 2 Die. Reviewers who give a number agree on 4 of 5 but split on the word: “high” for Bigwinboard’s info box, SlotCatalog’s header, Casinos.com and Borgata; “medium-high” in the review text of Bigwinboard, SlotCatalog and AboutSlots.
Bonus buy and FeatureSpins
| Option | Price | What you get | RTP | Average loss |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BonusHunt FeatureSpins | 3x per spin | Free spins about five times as likely to trigger | 96.32% | 0.11x |
| Deadly Duels FeatureSpins | 60x per spin | At least 2 VS symbols; no FS scatters | 96.35% | 2.19x |
| Lone Outlaw FeatureSpins | 60x per spin | At least 1 Outlaw with 2+ bullets; no FS scatters | 96.31% | 2.21x |
| Wild Wild West bonus | 100x | The 3-scatter bonus, 10 free spins | 96.31% | 3.69x |
| Dusk ’Til Dawn bonus | 200x | The 4-scatter bonus with DuelSpins | 96.30% | 7.40x |
By our arithmetic on AboutSlots’ 96.30% figure, at a $1 base bet one Dusk ’Til Dawn buy costs $200 and returns $192.60 on average over the long run, a loss of $7.40 per purchase, and individual buys land far either side of that figure. The rules say FS scatters can’t land in two of the five modes; they don’t name them, but that fits Bigwinboard’s descriptions of Deadly Duels and Lone Outlaw. FeatureSpins stay switched on, charging their price on every spin, until you press Disable. We found no source with buy RTPs for the lower versions.
The 15,000x cap
Hacksaw’s rules say the 15,000x cap can be reached in every game mode, including the base game, “with a lower probability, if bonus rounds are excluded.” They also say how: a VS symbol on each of the five reels at the same time, all expanded, with the multipliers adding up to at least 42x. On our reading, that makes the fourth DuelSpin in Dusk ’Til Dawn, which guarantees all five VS symbols, the one spin in the game with a full screen of DuelReels built in; whether it reaches the cap still depends on the five multipliers. None of the sources we read gives odds for the max win.
A sum that doesn’t add up
With a DuelReel on every reel, all 19 lines are five wilds. At the 10x five-wild pay reviewers report, the screen pays 19 × 10 = 190 times the combined multiplier, and 42 × 190 is 7,980x, barely half the cap. Reaching 15,000x at 42x would need about 18.8x per line. Either the reported wild pay or our reading of the rule is wrong, and Hacksaw’s rules print no pay values to settle it. The same sum does work for RIP City.
When a round reaches the cap, the game says so and ends the round at once; in a bonus, any free spins left are discarded.

Big wins
The largest documented hit we found is Roshtein’s. His own site reported a $3.5 million full-screen win at 4,721x on 28 November 2024, a week after the listed release, following a $1.8 million hit at 2,504x. By our arithmetic, those numbers imply bets of about $741 and $719, well above the 100 maximum bet the review sites list, and nothing we read explains the difference.
Most other max wins we found are YouTube titles without a stake. Two have figures: Lance posted his own $18,000 max win in December 2025, which would mean a $1.20 bet if it was the full 15,000x (our arithmetic), and The MAXWIN Channel posted an unnamed player’s 15,000x hit at $0.10, a $1,500 win. A Kickers upload of Xposed’s $402K hit matches a clip on this site, but gives no bet or multiple.
Searches for “Duel at Dawn” also turn up wins from a different game. Wanted Dead or a Wild has a bonus of that name, and Roshtein’s $5.4 million “Duel at Dawn” win in October 2024 came there, weeks before this slot appeared.
Wanted, 2 Wild 2 Die and later duels
AboutSlots calls Duel at Dawn “the third installment of the gruesome duels”, after Wanted Dead or a Wild (2021) and 2 Wild 2 Die (January 2024). SlotCatalog puts it plainly: “You get the exciting VS symbols from the first, and the wild-creating bullets from the second.” Bigwinboard found the visuals closer to 2 Wild 2 Die than to Wanted. We found no Hacksaw page that calls it a sequel. For how the VS mechanic started, see our VS reels explainer.
DuelReels have since moved beyond the West. Phoenix DuelReels (January 2025, per Bigwinboard) sets a phoenix against a water dragon, and Eternal Duel (March 2026) adds DuelReels that fight over free spins; our DuelReels games guide covers the set. SlotCatalog also points Western fans to Le Bandit, and Hacksaw’s November 2025 release Le Cowboy shares the setting; we found no source linking it to Duel at Dawn’s mechanics.
Critics split. Bigwinboard scored it 8 out of 10 and called it “the sort of wild saloon bar fighting, pistols in the street mayhem that Hacksaw Gaming excels at creating”. Casinos.com’s tester was unmoved: “I’ve had more action in my life when I was asleep.”
Questions people ask
What is the RTP of Duel at Dawn?
96.30% in the top version, according to Bigwinboard, AboutSlots and SlotCatalog. The same three list 94.27%, 92.28% and 88.37% versions; different casinos run different versions, and the game's rules screen shows the one running. Borgata's US blog prints 96.03%, which matches none of them.
What is the max win in Duel at Dawn?
15,000 times the bet, per round, in every game mode. Hacksaw's rules say it takes a VS symbol on each of the five reels at once, with the expanded DuelReel multipliers adding up to at least 42x.
How do DuelReels work in Duel at Dawn?
A VS symbol expands into a fully wild reel if that would complete a win. The Outlaw and the Sheriff each carry a multiplier from 2x to 200x; the survivor's multiplier applies to every win through that reel, and several DuelReels in one win add their multipliers together.
Is the Duel at Dawn bonus in Wanted Dead or a Wild the same game?
No. Wanted Dead or a Wild (2021) has a free-spins bonus called Duel at Dawn, and Bigwinboard's Wanted Salvation review describes a feature with the same name. Big wins reported in those bonuses, such as Roshtein's $5.4 million in October 2024, are not wins on this slot.
How much is the Duel at Dawn bonus buy?
100x the bet for Wild Wild West and 200x for Dusk 'Til Dawn, per Bigwinboard, SlotCatalog and AboutSlots. Three FeatureSpins modes cost 3x, 60x and 60x per spin. SlotCatalog marks the bonus buy as not available in the UK; Hacksaw's rules state no regional limit.
