Dork Unit

Dork Unit: gift boxes, multiplier wilds and the Dork bonuses

Dork Unit is Hacksaw’s circus slot from July 2022: a 5x4 grid, 16 fixed lines, fruit and card symbols, and three clowns called Tiny Timmy, Hefty Hector and Long Lenny. Gift Box wilds carry multipliers from a plain wild up to 200x, three of them start a sticky respin bonus, and three Lenny scatters start free spins in which the Dorks fill whole reels. Hacksaw rates it 3 out of 5 for volatility and caps it at 10,000x the bet. Its old page on Hacksaw’s website now leads to an error, so the facts here come from the game’s own rules, copies of them published by casinos, and the review sites, which disagree on the RTP.

The release date has one outlier: VegasSlotsOnline’s info box says 7/3/2022, against 26 July from Hacksaw itself, Bigwinboard, AboutSlots and SlotCatalog. Stream uploads complicate it further. Henny Highlights posted a video of “the NEW DORK UNIT slot” with bonus buys on 10 July 2022, which on our reading means the game was playable somewhere about two weeks before the official date. We found no source that explains why.

How a spin pays

Five reels, four rows and 16 fixed lines, paying matching symbols on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel; only the highest win per line counts. Five strawberries, the top symbol, pay 10x the bet, the same as a full line of Gift Boxes, and a line of five 10s pays just 1x. Bigwinboard found the base game “can be a pretty dry one”, and SlotCatalog warns of plenty of dead spins.

That copy has no symbol pictures; the names are our matching, based on the five-of-a-kind figures at Bigwinboard, AboutSlots and VegasSlotsOnline. VegasSlotsOnline prices Q, K and A level with cherry and lemon; the other sources give them 2x for five.

The theme is a stage show. Bigwinboard likened it to “some sort of 1970s kid’s TV show. Not quite Sesame Street” with “a toe-tapping tune”; SlotCatalog found the same soundtrack “a tad annoying”.

Gift Boxes

The Gift Box is the base game’s wild, and it comes in three grades. From Hacksaw’s in-game rules:

  • Common Gift Box: Wild, 2x, 3x or 4x, always shown on landing. “Wild” means a plain substitute with no multiplier.
  • Rare Gift Box: 5x, 10x, 15x or 20x.
  • Epic Gift Box: 25x, 50x, 75x, 100x, 150x or 200x.
  • Rare and Epic boxes stay closed unless they are part of a winning combination; only then do they reveal a value.
  • Every win a Gift Box is part of is multiplied by its value. If more than one Gift Box sits on the same winning line, the multipliers are added together and then applied.

Bigwinboard, AboutSlots, SlotCatalog and VegasSlotsOnline all leave the plain “Wild” off the Common box, listing it as 2x to 4x, and SlotCatalog also drops 20x from the Rare box. We follow the rules.

Dork Unit on a 50.00 bet with Gift Box wilds showing 3x, 3x and 20x, a spin win of 1,300.00 and a total win of 4,410.00
ElmiilloR on a $50 bet (Spanish interface): Gift Boxes showing 3x, 3x and 20x, a spin win of $1,300 and $4,410 in total, with 2 free spins left.

Reading that screen

Gift Boxes never appear in Dork Spins, so on our reading of the rules a screen with Gift Boxes and a free-spin counter has to be the Gift Bonanza. The spin win, $1,300, is exactly 26 times the $50 bet, and 3 + 3 + 20 = 26. That would fit all three boxes sitting on one line that pays 1x before multipliers, though the screenshot alone can’t prove it.

Gift Bonanza and Dork Spins

From Hacksaw’s in-game rules; the 10-spin count from Bigwinboard, AboutSlots and SlotCatalog.

Gift Bonanza is a respin round rather than a fixed set of free spins. It starts with 3 spins, every new Gift Box sets the counter back to 3, and three spins in a row without a new Gift Box end it. Lenny doesn’t appear, so on our reading the round can’t turn into Dork Spins. Because the boxes stick, a line can collect several of them over the course of the round, and their values add. SlotCatalog calls it a “twist on the regular hold-and-win style feature”.

Dork Spins removes the Gift Boxes. Each Lenny that lands on reels 2, 3 or 4 becomes a wild reel and stays that way for the rest of the bonus. On every spin, one of the three Dorks appears on each Dork Reel with a multiplier from his own range:

  • Tiny Timmy: 2x, 3x or 4x
  • Hefty Hector: 5x, 10x, 15x or 20x
  • Long Lenny: 25x, 50x, 75x, 100x, 150x or 200x

A Dork Reel covers the whole reel, so on our reading it sits on all 16 lines. A winning line that runs through more than one Dork Reel adds their multipliers before paying. With all three reels expanded, a line can therefore carry anything from 6x (three Timmys) to 600x (three Long Lennys), our arithmetic from the rules. The ranges are the same as the Gift Box grades, Timmy matching Common, Hector Rare and Lenny Epic, minus the plain wild.

RTP and volatility

Hacksaw’s rules template says the RTP was calculated by simulating 10 billion rounds, but leaves the number itself blank; casinos’ copies of the rules fill it in. The filled-in copies and the reviews do not line up. The top version is either 96.24% or 96.28%, and the 2022 reviews list lower versions that differ from the ones live casinos print today.

Values in pairs, as the sources disagree. VegasSlotsOnline’s headline 96.41% matches the FeatureSpins RTP and is left out. The game’s rules screen states the one you are playing. Actual sessions vary widely either way.

The operator figures (94.38%, 92.38%, 88.37%) are all a little higher than the review figures (94.30%, 92.18%, 88.22%), which might mean Hacksaw revised the maths at some point. No source says so. Whichever set is current, the bottom version keeps roughly three times as much of each bet as the top one (our arithmetic).

Hacksaw called it a “medium 3/5 volatility game” in its July 2022 release summary, and its slots list still shows the volatility meter at three of five; Bigwinboard, AboutSlots, SlotCatalog and VegasSlotsOnline agree. 7bet is the exception with “Medium / Medium-High”. A win of some size lands on about 31% of spins (30.96%, per Bigwinboard, AboutSlots and SlotCatalog), though the smallest line wins in the paytable are worth a fraction of the bet (0.1x for three 10s or Js).

Stake limits vary by market. The review sites give 0.10 to 100; Danske Spil’s copy of the rules caps Denmark at €25 (with feature buys allowed to exceed it), and 7bet lists £0.10 to £5 in the UK.

Prices from Bigwinboard, AboutSlots and SlotCatalog; RTPs from LTC Casino’s copy of the rules and the same three reviews, for the top version; volatility labels from AboutSlots. In Danske Spil’s 94.38% version the buy RTPs are 94.55%, 94.53% and 94.38%. Average loss is the long-run figure from price × (100 − RTP) ÷ 100, our arithmetic.

What FeatureSpins actually buys is disputed. LTC Casino’s copy of the in-game feature list and AboutSlots say a 6x chance to trigger the Gift Bonanza; Bigwinboard and SlotCatalog say a guaranteed Gift Box on each spin. Hacksaw’s own rules text only says each spin “guarantees certain features”. Either way, FeatureSpins keep charging 3x on every spin until you press Disable.

Hacksaw’s July 2022 release summary says the Gift Bonanza “can also be entered by acquiring the offer, available in regulated markets only”. In the UK, 7bet lists the buy as “Not available” and Wizard Slots’ copy of the rules has no buy section at all; we found no Hacksaw statement about the UK specifically. Bigwinboard wrote that the base-game action “did lag a bit, making the Buy Bonus button appealing”; at the RTPs above, every buy still returns less than its price on average.

The 10,000x cap

Hacksaw’s rules spell out the max win: five Epic Gift Boxes on the same line, each revealing 200x. Added together that is 1,000x, applied to the five-Gift-Box payout, which is 10x in LTC Casino’s copy of the paytable: exactly 10,000x, our arithmetic. Since Gift Boxes never appear in Dork Spins, on our reading of the rules that particular line can only happen in the base game or the Gift Bonanza, where boxes stick and can be collected one spin at a time. When the cap is reached the round ends at once and any remaining spins are discarded.

Every other source we opened gives 10,000x. The exception is SlotCatalog’s own header box and attributes table, which say 5,000x while its review text says 10,000x.

Big wins

We found no casino or Hacksaw record behind any of Dork Unit’s large wins. What we found are YouTube titles, mostly from highlight and re-upload channels.

  • Trainwreckstv, “15 million” max win. Two separate uploads from August 2022 use the same figure and call it a max win; one is from a channel linking to his Twitch. Neither gives a bet. If it was a true 10,000x, the bet would have been 1,500 in the same unspecified currency, our arithmetic.
  • Roshtein, $1.6 million, on the “ROSHTEIN - Highlights & Fun” channel in October 2023. No bet given.
  • Hyuslive, $500,000 at $1,500 a spin, about 333x, on the streamer’s own channel in December 2025. The video description says it includes paid promotion.

Other uploads put Roshtein at 4.5 million and Trainwreckstv at 2.8 million and $2.4 million, without bets and from re-upload channels; we found no link between those channels and either streamer. One clip on this site, ElmiilloR’s “Dork Unit - 77.380$ (X1547)”, implies a bet of about $50 (77,380 ÷ 1,547, our arithmetic), the same stake as the screenshot above; we found nothing outside our own catalogue to confirm it.

Dorks of the Deep and other comparisons

Dork Unit was #7 in Casinolytics’ list of the most watched slots of Q1 2023, as reported by GamblingNews, and in October 2023 Hacksaw’s CEO said it had “won scores of casino fans since launching last year”. When Hacksaw signed with Eurobet Italy in October 2023, Dork Unit was the only Hacksaw game in that lobby at first, with Wanted Dead or a Wild, Hand of Anubis and Chaos Crew to follow.

We found no Dork Unit 2. The nearest relative we found is Dorks of the Deep (March 2025, per Bigwinboard), whose expanding wild reels, per Hacksaw’s game page, show an Octopus (2x–9x), a Mermaid (10x–20x) or an Ocean King (25x–200x), to our eye the same three-tier idea as Timmy, Hector and Lenny. Neither Hacksaw nor Bigwinboard calls it a sequel; Bigwinboard found it “kind of dorky, maybe not Dork Unit (2022) level”.

Bigwinboard and AboutSlots both framed Dork Unit as a lighter follow-up to the darker Hand of Anubis and Itero. Bigwinboard noted it has no “mental streak respin rounds à la Chaos Crew”, and AboutSlots said its multipliers are “not in the same class as Rocket Reels”. In our view the Dork Reels are a cousin of Wanted’s VS reels: a whole-reel wild with a multiplier, and several on one line add up. See our VS reels explainer and the Wanted Dead or a Wild guide.

Questions people ask

What is the RTP of Dork Unit?

The sources disagree. The top version is 96.24% according to LTC Casino's copy of the in-game rules, AboutSlots and Bigwinboard's review text, and 96.28% according to Bigwinboard's info box and SlotCatalog. Lower versions seen at casinos include 94.38% (Danske Spil), 92.38% (7bet) and 88.37% (Wizard Slots). The rules screen in the game states the version being played.

What is the max win in Dork Unit?

10,000 times the bet. Hacksaw's rules describe the route: five Epic Gift Boxes on one line, each showing 200x, for a combined 1,000x applied to the paytable's five-Gift-Box payout. That payout is 10x in LTC Casino's copy of the paytable, so the total is 10,000x (our arithmetic).

How do the Gift Boxes work?

They are wilds with multipliers. Common Gift Boxes show Wild, 2x, 3x or 4x straight away; Rare (5x to 20x) and Epic (25x to 200x) only reveal their value when they are part of a win. Several Gift Boxes on the same winning line have their multipliers added together.

How many free spins does Dork Spins give?

10, according to Bigwinboard, AboutSlots and SlotCatalog. Hacksaw's rules describe the feature but do not give a spin count.

How much is the Dork Unit bonus buy?

100x the bet for the Gift Bonanza, 200x for Dork Spins and 3x per spin for FeatureSpins, according to Bigwinboard, AboutSlots and SlotCatalog. Two UK casinos list no bonus buy.
